While many people have heard of orthodontics, many have never heard of orthopedics and what these appliances can do. We offer both orthodontics and orthopedics at Quality Orthodontic Care and explain the differences between these two services below. Feel free to contact our orthodontist, Dr. John Fleming, to learn more about our orthodontic and orthopedic care in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Orthodontic appliances, like braces, are used to straighten gapped, crooked and crowded teeth so a patient can have a better bite, healthier teeth and a more beautiful smile. Dentofacial orthopedics specifically fix problems that have developed with the bone structures of the jaw and face. These appliances can redirect growth to make a variety of repairs, including widening a narrow jaw and fixing an underbite or overbite.

Because orthodontic and orthopedic treatments work for similar results, they are often combined during treatment. Orthopedics are generally used first because they are most effective during the growth periods of seven-year-old children. Once a child’s permanent teeth have erupted, then we can start using orthodontic treatment to give them a strong bite and healthy smile. Please call our orthodontic practice at 770-609-3270 to learn more about the differences between orthodontics and orthopedics and how your child can benefit.
