Your Clear Aligners Can Be Kept Clear With These Tips

Posted .

Our team at Quality Orthodontic Care is pleased to offer Invisalign® clear aligners in order to help you achieve your dream smile very conveniently. Though these aligners are very durable and strong enough to realign your teeth, it’s important to show them proper care so that they continue to provide excellent treatment. Below are some helpful tips to maintain the hygiene of your clear aligners and teeth to keep dental problems at bay.

When you take out your clear aligner during meals or when you are cleaning your teeth, you can remove any lingering saliva and plaque by rinsing the appliance under water. This prevents bacteria growth that could otherwise result in harmful dental conditions such as cavities and gum disease. In addition, you should take time at least once a day to deeply clean the appliance by soaking it in a container of water mixed with an appliance cleaner such as denture solution or the Invisalign cleaning crystals. The cleanser you choose should have a recommended soak time, or you can ask our orthodontist.

Second, cleaning your smile before placing your orthodontic aligner back in your mouth is another important step. Brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste before following up with an easy-to-use floss product so that your aligner isn’t place on an unclean smile. If your teeth are full of plaque and bacteria, these substances remain wedged between the teeth and your aligner and can cause you to develop cavities that delay your orthodontic treatment.
